A local club held a kid's day event at a nearby shooting range. I offered everyone the opportunity to joint, but Emily and William were my only takers.
It was a rainy morning, with rain in the forecast all day! They sent out an email that they would have the event rain or shine, so we went. Emily didn't bring a jacket, so she ended up in some "emergency clothes" that I keep in the car.
They shot a rifle, a shotgun, and a bb gun. Neither cared much for the shotgun, and Emily brought home a bruise on her arm as a souvenir, but I think they are glad they tried it out.
They also had some arrows with 'safety' ends, and both really enjoyed the archery.
We were gifted with the ceasing of rain, so they were able to play the game that is usually at the start of the day.
And then, they fed us!!
The last event was a raffle. They had some big prizes (like bb guns and even a shot gun) and lots of smaller toys. They pulled one ticket at a time, and the child would go up and select their prize. They did pull off one of the two 'biggest' guns for the child who was picked last. = )
Emily was excited to pick the week of summer camp at a local nature center. It's been a week or two, and she is now fully registered for her top pick!!
William's top pick was not one of the big guns, but a crossbow type toy kit, with target. It wasn't an expensive item but was what he really wanted. Ultimately, he picked out a very informative nature guide on butterflies. He gave it to me and was actually a pretty good sport about it.

So, the next day, Billy and Emily and I went out in search of his top pick. We ended up at 5 different 'farm' type stores, but never found an exact match. We settled for a similar toy from the same company. Let me tell you, he was one happy boy.
Also, it is baby chicken season at the farm stores, so that was Emily's favorite thing to do while we shopped for William. I also picked up some new pumpkin seeds, since none of mine sprouted. = (

It was a pleasant experience for the three of us that went to the event, and next year I will push for all of them to join the fun!
later days
