Sometimes the sewing bug bites, and when it does I try to clear my schedule for one day to take care of everything that has piled up on my sewing desk.
If I'm not embroidering, the kids think playing games (the same games they have on their computers) on my sewing computer is the best. I don't even have speakers upstairs.
My recent creations:
My mom found a shirt and skirt for Juliet, that I was able to combine into a dress for her. She was quite excited. We've had excellent luck finding hello kitty dresses, but Ariel is so much harder for some reason.
My mom bought a seat cushion at the dollar tree to sit on Sarah's stool. It was a red fabric, with a red seam binding, so she was searching for one with white seam binding that I could pull from. She never found another one, and I could not find any at a thrift store. So, in an effort to clean off my pile, I made my own.
It's not hard, but it's somewhat tedious, depending how much you need. First, you cut thin (1.5-2" strips) then sew one set of ends together (right sides facing.) Repeat for each section. Iron flat, then stitch them together across the seam. Once it's as long as you need, fold it in half and iron press along the entire length. Once that is finished, start on one side and fold half of one of the halves over. Iron press the entire length. Repeat with the other half. Once you have four sections, fold the outer two in, fold in half, and iron the entire piece. Like I said, tedious.
There were two sections of seam binding to allow the cushion to tie down, and I learned from my mistakes, so the top came out better than the sides & front.
An my youngest nice, Amelia, is about to celebrate her first Easter! My mom found this cute little basket at a thrift shop, and I put her name on it. = ) And because I love the continuity, I'm sending her one of the twins' Easter dresses from last year, but it might be too big this year.
And, we made our camping reservations in Wisconsin with the Prescott's this week! I was so excited. I found 5 matching lanterns at the thrift shop, but two of them didn't work properly. I decided to just keep the one, and make one for the Prescotts too!
We are excited for summer, and everyone is ready for some warmer weather!
later days
