Sweet summertime! I've always loved the lazy days of summer, but after surviving the miserable cold, snowy, icy winter, this summer is particularly sweet!
At the end of the summer Emily is having a yard sale. My mom's friend has been sending things over to add to her pile, so we tried out the air hockey table.
Headbanz has been around long enough to hit thrift shops, so we recently acquired a copy. Everyone played a few turns, but eventually it was down to just Emily, Grace and me.
My favorite moment of the game came at the end, when Grace had a grasp of how to play:
Me (with a shark card):"what sound do I make?"
Emily (to Grace): "do you know what sound it makes?"
Grace: "shark noises!"
It was fun, and I'm really glad Grace stuck it out until she figured out how to play!
We've also signed up for one of my favorite summer pastimes: summer reading club!
Alice has already worked her way through the first line, and Emily is not far behind. They each have to read 45 minutes per square and the twins and William need 30 per square. Family rule is on days that daddy works they have to read 20 minutes before any screen is turned on, so it is nice to have the extra incentive of library prizes. = )
Our village streets are under construction, which is unfortunate while driving, but we lucked out and got to see the cement truck in action, since we walked. = )
While Billy was gone our sump pump failed. I don't know why things tend to go wrong while I'm running a solo show, but they do. I attempted to see if I could trouble shoot in some way, but ended up just calling the home warranty company.
He came out and got it working again, but whenever the pump was put in they did not do it properly and it will be somewhere between $5,000-10,000 to have it properly installed. So, that won't be happening for a while. = (
A summer skill we are trying to learn is shoe tying. William and Emily both have fancy shoes that they would like to wear, but first need to be able to tie them!
On day two, Emily was able to repeatedly tie her shoes, and Alice* and William managed at least one success before we called it a day.
I made my sister some custom curtains for her kitchen, but they are travelling via Avia delivery service, so she won't actually have them until next month.
Grace and her penguin were pretending it was cold. I told her we really don't have long until she won't need to pretend at all.
Avia also took us to see the Incredibles 2. It was very cute, but my 3 youngest had lost interest by the end, so I don't think it is as kid friendly as the first.
July has us pretty busy, but it's a summer 'busy.' Hopefully I'll be able to update a little more consistently. = )
later days
*Alice had some frustration, and was recovering when we took a selfie (for selfie day!)
