I am naturally like, when will it stop? Is it slowing down? Are we doomed? And when the news stations started talking about school closings I'm like "yes! thank you. someone around here has common sense!" So, around 10pm last night, we got the calls/texts/emails that today would be a snow day!
Yay!*
So, last night, I set up the bowls, and spoons, and cereal and declared today cereal day! The kids had the option of eating cereal for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack!
Sadly, it snowed a bit more overnight, so I had to get dressed to go out and shovel snow, but the kids also had a pajama day! And once they started jumping off of things I knew it was time to break out the slide** that I had been saving for just such an occasion!
Juliet has taken a special interest in the fa-la-la-llama, and carried it around like a baby most of the day.
Sometimes, cereal just isn't enough, so I did end up making a few snacks, and meal options during the day:
After I told Emily that the snow was so high in parts of our yard that it fell into my rain boot, she got dressed and went out to play in the snow. here she is burying herself in the snow. Not long after this, I ended up helping William get dressed and sending him out to play too... he needed time out of the house. = ) It was in the single digits for part of today, so they only spent about 20 minutes out in the cold.
We had a nice day of lounging about.
During story time, Juliet has been picking the little mermaid as her book every.single.night. so, for the past few days she will "read" it to me. Most of the time she just tells me who is in the picture, but tonight she added a bit of flavor:
In this scene, she said "Ariel daddy shoot fork."
And in this picture: "Ariel, Eric best friends."
She is pretty good about summarizing the rest of the story as we go. It made for quite a sweet story time tonight.
And Alice spent her snow day doing her all time favorite thing: gaming. She did take some time to play on the new slide, and play dragons with her siblings, but mostly: computers.
The roads have been cleared, so it's back to "normal" tomorrow. But we're expecting snow for the next four days. If it were up to me, we'd just stay on break and pick school back up in April. For some reason, no one asked me.
later days
*but Billy still had to go to work. = (
**I bought it for $5 at goodwill, and it comes apart into two pieces!
